New coach for girls’ golf

The girls’ golf team is welcoming a new member to the group – English teacher, Seth Johnson

Seth Johnson has been hired as the new coach of the girl’s golf team. After the team’s previous coach, Grant Shafranski, decided not to coach this upcoming season, the athletic department sent out an announcement that they were looking for somebody who could fill the position. The English teacher jumped at the opportunity.

“I love golf,” says Johnson. ‘I’m a golf junkie.”

Johnson started playing golf with his father when he was just 10 years old. He never took any lessons but has played a lot. He says he has gotten better in the more recent years. Johnson learns by reading golf books and watching videos online. Although Johnson has no coaching experience, he is hoping to be able to help the 13 players out with the basics. He has never coached any sports team before, but he is looking at this position as a great chance to start.

“[I am excited] for sure,” says Johnson. “I don’t really know what to expect because I don’t know much about the team, but I meet the girls soon and I’ll find out how things work. I’ve talked to some of the other coaches and gotten an idea. So yeah, it’ll be a learning experience for me, but I’m excited.”
