Mourning the loss of class of 2020 graduate, student, friend
Berkley Allen Duckson (’20), aged 18, passed away on February 20, 2021 due to injuries sustained in a snowmobiling accident in Brainerd, Minnesota.
Berkley was born on March 13, 2002 to Jay and Pamela Duckson. He attended Minnehaha Academy from preschool up until graduating with the class of 2020 14 years later, naming him a “lifer”.
After the loss of his beloved mother at just 12 years old, he and his father, Jay, chose to live a full life in her honor. He grew up with a particular love for hockey, fishing, hunting, boating and skiing. With a lively love for life and others, he spent his free time with a wide group of friends.
“He was a great kid and a great friend,” said junior and friend, Will Lehr. “There was never a dull moment with Berk. We’d always find something fun to do.”
During his time at Minnehaha, Berkley co-founded the school’s fishing team, was a member of the International Space Station project and was a varsity hockey player.
He was voted “most likely to run a Fortune 500 company” by his classmates and went on to graduate with honors.
He attended Texas Christian University in the fall where he became a member of Sigma Chi and finished his first semester with high academic marks.
Berkley is survived by his father Jay, extended family and friends.
Berkley, a charismatic, kind and caring person, was loved by many.
“He always made people feel welcome no matter who you were,” said Lehr. “He was also a stud on the ice.”
