‘Rev. J’ moves to high school from South Campus to teach Bible courses
Joel Johnson, better known as Rev. J, joins Brian Zimmer in the sacred studies department at the Upper
School. Both taught at the middle school for several years.
“I knew that I would really enjoy teaching ethics and capstone classes as a way of applying Biblical knowledge that we’ve been studying in middle school,” Johnson said, adding that he is looking forward to “the chance to engage with students at a little bit of a deeper level.”
Teaching has been much different from his previous jobs. After studying public relations at the University of Minnesota, Johnson became the first social media manager for Puncher Mexican Grill.
“I basically was tweeting about burritos and on Facebook all day,” he said.
Johnson and his wife, Meghan, have three kids, Henry (7), Emma (4) and Lewis (2). In his spare time he enjoys running, playing music and hanging out with his kids.
