New Faces at M.A.: Jamie Jurkovich, U.S History

Jamie Jurkovich returns to M.A

Jamie Jurkovich, U.S. History and AP U.S. History teacher, returned for his first full year of teaching at Minnehaha Academy after beginning in January 2024. Minnehaha was only a “fill-in” for Jamie Jurkovich but turned out to be a great experience for not only him but the whole Minnehaha community, Jamie said, “It was kind of an emergency sort of fill-in for a semester. And the deal kind of was, if I liked MA and MA like me, you know, then there’s a good chance that I’d be asked back. And I loved it. I just fell in love with the place. I thought it was an extremely welcoming community

Jamie has been a teacher for over 30 years and has only been to schools where he has taught one gender, Jamie said, “I’ve worked with single gender my whole career, so it’s fun to have a both gender environment. This is a more diverse environment, which I also enjoy.”l

Jurkovich is from Minnesota’s Iron Range. He earned a B.A. degree in history and Russian studies at Carleton College and an M.A. in geography at the University of North Carolina.

Jurkovich’s wife works for Blue Cross and Blue Shield. They live in St.Paul and have two adult children.

He enjoys traveling, golfing, photography, and eating his wife’s excellent cooking all while being a social studies teacher. Aniq House is a student of Jamie Jurkovich. Aniq said good things about Jurkovich’s teaching saying, “Mr. Jurkovich is a great teacher. He is chill and a really good helper.”
