Short Takes: Trump Mar-a-Lago Investigation

FBI begins investigation of Trump’s Florida estate

Earlier this fall, the FBI began an extensive investigation of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The search was conducted with the intention of finding classified documents regarding Trump’s relations with Vladimir Putin and Russia, as well as the Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021. Out of the items seized in the investigation, 18 documents were marked as top secret, 54 as secret, 31 as confidential, and 11,179 government documents or photographs were without classification markings. Overall, the wide inventory consisted of 33 groups of items that agents removed from the estate, including individual documents and materials like books, newspaper articles, magazines, gifts, and even pieces of clothing.

With these documents now in the light, it seems as though Trump’s back is against the wall, with the 45th President asking the Supreme Court to intervene in the review of the Mar-a-Lago records (the court refused). Much of the specific details regarding the documents have yet to be exposed, but this ongoing situation will only continue to get more interesting as Trump gears up for a potential 2024 Presidential Election bid.
