Girls’ volleyball takes to the court tonight at 7 p.m. for their first section game. Ranked seventh in section 4AA, the girls will face St. Croix Prep, the tenth seed. This year, with an 18-11 season record and an 11-1 record in conference play, Minnehaha volleyball was crowned IMAC conference champion for the first time.

Their success comes after last season’s finish of 8-13 and a first-round elimination from sections. Sarah Kaminski, four year varsity player and senior captain, has never been apart of a Minnehaha volleyball team as successful as this one. Entering sections, she hopes to achieve a goal set at the beginning of the year: upset an opponent.

“We’re hoping that we can win [tonight’s] game,” said Kaminski, “so that we can go to play second seeded St. Croix Lutheran.”

A win tonight would put Minnehaha in the section quarterfinals, where they would face the winner of St. Croix Lutheran and Richfield, who also play tonight at 7 p.m.

Trying to stave off an abrupt end to the volleyball season, Kaminski finds motivation in the knowledge that each game may be her last in high school.

“It’s sad that it’s coming to a close and that you know that you’re going to be done with volleyball soon,” she said. “But it makes you work harder and want it more because you don’t want it to be the last one.”
