Not a physician, not a doctors office

Changes in the nurse’s office

Minnehaha nurse Christine Erlenborn has sent newsletters and talked to parents attempting to inform the Minnehaha community of some changes in the nurse’s office. The first big change is the establishment of a health service mission and vision.

As printed in the 2012-2013 student handbook, the mission and vision are:

Mission of Minnehaha Academy Health Services is to create and sustain a school environment that promotes and supports student achievement, health and well, being.

Vision of Minnehaha Academy Health Service is Healthy Learners.

Another large change is the medication administration policy. Stock medicine will no longer be available in the nurses office, therefore the new policy allows students to carry and self-administer acetaminophen and ibuprofen, (Tylenol, Advil, Ibuprofen, etc.) over the counter medicine, but excludes allergy medicine. Students who wish to self-administer need to get the parent consent form (found on Minnehaha Academy website) signed and returned to the nurse along with the bottled and labeled medicine before legally carrying stock medicine around.

We are “not a physician, not a doctor’s office,” said Erlenborn.
