Boys Club Volleyball

Posted: April 15, 2019

The MN Boys HS Volleyball Association started in the Fall of 2017 with a few schools from the south suburbs and has since taken off. Minnehaha Academy will join over 50 high schools to compete in the Minnesota Boys High School Volleyball Association starting April 8th.

The MN Boys HS Volleyball Association is currently not a MSHSL sport so it’s considered a club. But, Walt Weaver, the Director & Founder of MN Boys HS Volleyball Association, has been in talks with the MSHSL to accept Boys HS Volleyball into their organization as another sanctioned high school sport.

Boys volleyball is one sport that won’t be affected by weather this spring. Minnehaha Academy will have a Varsity and JV team competing in the association this Spring. Kim Benka will be the head coach of the varsity team (maybe Jamie Suapaia as a assistant Varsity Coach). Minnehaha is co-oping with Nova Classical Academy and will have 2-4 players from there. Benka expects to have 18-22 players on the roster once the season starts.

Practice will start April 1st and games will begin April 8th. All practices and home games will be at the North Campus Gym. JV will play matches at 6:30, 3 sets no matter what. Varsity will start at 7:30, 3 out of 5 Sets. The season will go through Mid-May with a possibility of making the Boys Volleyball State Tournament May 18-19. Minnehaha will most likely be in the Central Conference with Edison, Roseville, Como, Mounds View, Hmong Prep and Patrick Henry. The league plans that the team will be scheduled around 10 regular season matches.
